One of the best ways to make your business stand out is by providing an exclusive offer that customers cannot find anywhere else. When an Italian restaurant opened up near my neighborhood, I thought it would easily be pushed away by Olive Garden and Spaghetti Warehouse. Then they put a sign in the window that said “$3.95 Lunch Specials,” and people were lining up to eat there. You just have to find that one service that sets you apart from the competition, no matter how strong that competition might be.
Analyze What Your Competition Is Doing
If there are successful businesses in your area that target the same niche, check out what they are doing to keep themselves on top. You shouldn’t aim to do the same thing, but rather strive to do it better. If you can offer better prices on certain products or services, go for it. If you can stay open an hour later or one extra day, do so. This will be what brings in new customers.
Approach Marketing From A Different Angle
In one way or another, you’re going to have to get creative. It will be that unique marketing angle that makes people think, “Hmm, I should check that out!” You might offer the identical service as someone else, but the way you market it will stand out more than theirs. Most cell phone providers offer prepaid plans these days, but T-Mobile is the company that made a name for itself in no-contract service. Find your angle and run with it.

Seasonal marketing techniques can be just as effective as anything else. This means more than just running a 10% off sale the week before Christmas. If you have a lawn care company you want to build, try running a “pre-summer signup sale” that gives people a discount if they reserve your services for the full summer. This will get you a lot of guaranteed work for that part of the year, and it will make people feel like they are getting a good deal. Change up your marketing periodically to accommodate changes like that, and you will see a big improvement on your business.
